30-Hour
Famine Main Countdown as Volunteer at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil in 2013
English version
I
heard of World Vision since I was still studying but not knowing what that is
until 2012. I started to involve in 30-Hour Famine when my friends encouraged
me and registered my name as a Volunteer. At that time, I just thought of
entertaining them and most importantly, I am 99% sure that World Vision won’t
pick me as many people had registered. “Unfortunately”, 2 months later an email
popped out of nowhere, stating “Congratulations! You are the chosen one for
Recycling and Sanitation group!”
The
next thing I know was, I am at Stadium Malawati car-park and I am going to
spend my next 30 hours in life to suffer in hunger with other refugees!!! Why
me??? All I have in mind was to leave this nightmare as soon as possible.
However,
things immediately changed after I step into the Stadium. I was grouped with
all the volunteers over Malaysia and from here we see various global issues
that World Vision is alleviating to help the society for all these years. The
event includes many fun and meaningful games/activities which educate us.
Besides, I enjoyed mixing with other volunteers from different states. Until
now, we are still keeping in touch and will always look forward to meet each
other in the yearly 30-Hour Famine Countdown.
In
2013, I was the one who sign up my girlfriend as a volunteer as soon as the
registration open. In the same year, my friends and I decided to organize a DIY
camp in Penang to spread the message and collect donations. Despite all the
limited resources, financial, time and experience, we managed to strive through
all the problems and successfully organized our very first 30-Hour Famine
Warriors DIY-Camp. The feeling after completed both DIY Camp and Volunteer in
the 30-Hour Famine main countdown were indescribable.
I
have challenged myself to join 30-Hour Famine yearly in whatever forms as long
as I could. This year, once again we will continue to organize the DIY Camp and
wish to recruit more campers and collect more funds to help the in-need
community. I would really like to urge all of you to join us, together we
experience the fun, memorable and meaningful 30-Hour Famine DIY-Camp and in the
same time, we give hope and lend a helping hand to those in need.
